Ana Lira is a photographer and visual artist who lives and works in Recife, Brazil. Her work focuses on power relations and their implications on communication dynamics. Her research articulates visual narratives, press materials and diverse media into photographic and printed works, murals, publications, urban interventions, writing and special educational projects. She is a specialist on Theory and Critique of Culture. In the last years, she has developed independent research and educational projects in connection with visual projects.
Her practice is based on collective projects and partnerships, which she has engaged in for more than two decades. In Brazil she promotes actions and debates on life in urban spaces, communication and culture. She also invites diverse photographers and visual artists to develop visual interventions and special educational undertakings in rural communities and cities in many Brazilian states.
